IK' Jipijapa Fan
In the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, the weaving of jipijapa palm has been practiced for generations within Mayan communities. This natural fiber is harvested and prepared by hand, then woven through a slow process that reflects both skill and tradition.
Each piece is made by a community of Mayan women weavers in the region of Campeche, where this knowledge continues to be preserved and passed down over time.
This piece, IK’, takes its name from the Mayan word for wind. Its wide, curved form and woven structure create movement and texture, while the wooden handle adds balance and contrast.
Lightweight and functional, it serves both as a cooling object and a sculptural piece, bridging utility and form.
